Generate Timelines#

Use this structured prompt to create timelines from emails, text message screenshots, and other evidence materials.

Using the Prompt#

  1. Go to the Search bar on the Documents page where you can enter the prompt.
  2. Select your documents: Use the @ function to reference specific documents you want analyzed for timeline construction.
  3. Customize bracketed sections: Replace [BRACKETED TEXT] with case-specific information relevant to your matter.
  4. Remove brackets: Delete brackets before submitting the prompt.

Timeline Generation Prompt#

Extract a chronological timeline from the uploaded documents [@ selected documents]. Include only factual information explicitly stated or directly implied in the source. Do not add observations, interpretations, or conclusions.

1. Event Extraction

  • Extract every dated event, communication, transaction, activity, or procedural step.
  • Capture exact timestamps, including timezones. Include all versions when dates are missing, approximate, or inconsistent. Mark uncertainties.
  • Identify all individuals, entities, and organizations involved, including aliases, role changes, and affiliations. Focus on: [NAMES/ENTITIES].
  • Describe each event in a complete sentence.

2. Conflicts, Ambiguities, and Gaps

  • Include all differing accounts without reconciliation.
  • Mark approximate or uncertain dates as: DATE UNCERTAIN
  • Include implied but undated events as: DATE UNCERTAIN

3. Output Structure

  • Present the timeline in strict chronological order.
  • Format each event as a bullet point beginning with the timestamp, followed by the event sentence and source citation.

Using This Prompt in Reports#

This prompt can also be used on the Report drafting page:

  1. Click on the "AI" button to open the "User Instruction" box.
  2. Enter and customize the prompt in the box.
  3. Save the prompt by clicking the "Save" button under "User Instruction" at the bottom right.

Note: On the Report page, output defaults to paragraph format. If your timeline generates in paragraph form, use this follow-up instruction to convert it:
